Warm Your Home During the Rainy Season With These Tips

While you may enjoy the occasional spring drizzle or passing thunderstorm, never-ending showers during the rainy season make you look out the window wishing for clear blue skies. Rain is great for nature, but you prefer to soak up the sun!

You can’t change the weather, but you can change how you feel about it. Here are a few ways to make your home feel cozy when the rain won’t stop.

Turn on the Light

It’s hard to feel down when you have a customized display of lights brightening your home and yard. Smart landscape lighting harnesses the powers of color and light to accentuate a property’s exterior beauty.

Landscape lighting also creates a cozy atmosphere despite the rain. Green, pink, orange, and blue are warm colors that invoke the feeling of a cloudless spring day. Use them as part of your landscaping lighting color scheme, switching them up occasionally so you’re never bored with the play of lights brightening your exterior.

Paint a Few Rooms

Despite the rain drumming outside, giving a couple of rooms in your home a fresh coat of paint may make you forget about the gray skies overhead.

Understandably, you may worry about how shifting temperatures and humidity affect paint. After all, you don’t want water and air to get into the paint and cause cracking and peeling.

Ease your worries and protect the paint job by only painting dry surfaces. Be careful about opening windows in rooms you paint, as random raindrops may collect on the window sill or trickle down the wall under the window. Also, be aware that humidity may lengthen how long it takes paint to dry, so you need to wait longer than usual before applying a second coat.

Hold off on painting exterior surfaces exposed to the rain until they dry fully. Even when a surface looks dry, it could still hold traces of moisture. Wait at least a full day before painting to give the item time to dry completely.

Bake Delicious Treats

It’s hard to keep thinking about the rain when your kitchen smells like a bakery. Choose a recipe, take a quick trip to the grocery store, don an apron, and get cooking! Turn a not-so-great season into a baking season while improving your cooking skills.

You may need to alter your baking technique to account for extra humidity in the air. If you bake in low temperatures and low humidity, your goods may dry out. High temperatures and high humidity may cause your dishes to absorb moisture and not need as much cooking time. It could help to bake with a portable humidifier.

Adjusting the amount of liquid ingredients in baking also helps you overcome the effects of humidity. If you have a lot of moisture in your kitchen, reduce liquid ingredients to avoid undercooking dishes. If your portable or whole-house humidifier withdraws too much moisture and leaves you with little humidity, add more liquid ingredients to bread, muffins, and other baked delectables.

Move Furniture

Are you bored with your home’s current furniture arrangement? Get your creative juices flowing and set thoughts of the rain aside as you decide how to rearrange rooms to your liking and convenience.

While mulling over how to reinvigorate the look and feel of spaces, think about creating a focal point that draws the eye and pulls the rest of the room together. Common focal points in homes include fireplaces, large windows, and TVs.

It’s also good to think about how you “flow” through a room. Rearrange furniture so you can walk through a space easily without bumping into a table or stubbing your toe on the couch.

The wet season need not leave you drenched in gloom and pining for sunny days. Make your own sunshine with these suggestions and reign over rain’s parade.
