Why Can’t I See Who’s Viewed My Instagram Story?  We’ve Got the Why and the Fix!

Even the biggest social media networking platforms have problems every now and then!  One of the most recent ones has left Instagram users baffled – they’re all wondering “Why can’t I see who’s viewed my Instagram Story?”  Having spent ages perfecting a superb story, only to upload it and return to it an hour later to see zero views, it’s frustrating.  It’s even more irritating when you’re a business, brand or Influencer and you want to increase your Instagram followers.

Can’t See Story Views?  It’s Not Just You!

The issue started at the back end of December 2021 when Instagrammers started to complain to the platform about their problem.  The problem carried over into the new year and even today, some Instagram users are finding that they’re not able to see who’s viewed their Instagram Story.

So if you’re sitting there, constantly refreshing your Story to see who has looked at it, but you’re getting that big, fat zero at the bottom, you could also be asking yourself, “Why can’t I see who’s viewed my Instagram Story?”  It’s a good job that we’re here to help.  Read on to find out why and to help you with fixing your problem.

Let’s dive in.

The Instagram Statement – Story View Problems

On the 4th January 2022, a Meta spokesperson said:

“[Meta] is aware that some people are having issues seeing their Instagram Stories view count and viewer list.”  The problem was so big, it extended to other social media platforms.  Twitter became the place where Instagram users raised their concerns and there were countless complaints!

A few days later, the bug was supposedly fixed but even now, some users are experiencing the same problem! The same thing happened in May 2021, users complained that when they accessed their Stories, the views at the bottom didn’t have a number.

Restarting Instagram and Re-Installation of the App

To respond to this, Instagram ran a test on a few test group users and promised a fix within the week.  The problem was fixed but as we said, reoccurred in December 2021. One of the things you can do if you’re still experiencing a problem seeing your Story views is to restart your Instagram app.  Alternatively, if you’re still having issues asking yourself, “Why can’t I see who’s viewed my Instagram Story”, you could uninstall Instagram and then reinstall it.  This should help.

Have You Been Shadowbanned?

Why can’t I see who’s viewed my Instagram Story – could be a result of being shadowbanned. Some users may be shadowbanned which is one reason why you might not be able to see who’s looked at your Instagram story. Usually, a shadowban is the result of posting multiple images or content that isn’t allowed under Instagram’s user policy. Some of that content might be provocative or defamatory and that type of content is not allowed on the social media networking platform.

Are You Posting Multiple Images?

If you’ve posted multiple images again and again, you might be flagged by Instagram as a spam account.  So you might be experiencing a temporary suspension which means that you can’t post at all.  In this situation, the best thing is to either reach out to Instagram and ask them to lift the temporary suspension.  Or, you could just sit tight for a few days and try again.

Final Words – Problems Posting on Instagram

So, to recap, if you’re wondering “Why can’t I see who’s viewed my Instagram story?”, it might be a glitch, it might be that you’ve uploaded too many images and your account has been flagged for spam or perhaps you’ve posted defamatory content against the user policy?  Other reasons could be that you need to update your Instagram app (you can do this by visiting your app store and checking for updates).  You might also need to check your connectivity as your WIFI might need a reboot.  Or you’re in an area with low connectivity.  Hopefully one of the above will help you to get back to posting what you want on Instagram!
